Yankees' Mariano Rivera: 'I will be back' to pitch again

Mariano Rivera says he's not through.

Baseball's all-time saves leader said on Twitter Friday: "I am coming back. Write it down in big letters. I'm not going out like t his."

Rivera, 42, suffered what is believed to be a torn ACL shagging fly balls in the Kansas City outfield on Thursday.

Rivera also tweeted a thank you to fans, friends and his family for support, saying: "I will be OK. I will be back."

Rivera expressed less certainty when he met with reporters after Thursday's game.

"As this point I don't know (about pitching again)," he said. "I have to face (the injury) first. (See) how the rehab is going to happen. We'll see from there."

But others in Yankee uniforms know this is not the way the closer with 608 career saves wants to close out his career.

"I've known him the last four years and I don't think that is his style to go out like that," outfielder Nick Swisher told ESPN.

Swisher said teammates were shocked Rivera injured himself during batting practice.

"I think everybody had the same reaction: 'What just happened right there?' he said. "(Shagging fly balls) is just how he gets his exercise ... If I was half a good an outfielder as he is ..."

Without Rivera, Yankees manager Joe Girardi has two immedate options to close games: right-handers David Robertson and Rafael Soriano.

It was Girardi, along with bullpen coach Mike Harkey, who lifted Rivera onto the cart that took him off the field on Thursday.

Cole Hamels hit Bryce Harper with a pitch last night. He admitted that he did it on purpose so MLB suspended him for 5 games. Good. Thought that was Bush League for him to do that.

I'm a Yankees fan, but Johan Santana of the Mets just pitched the first no-hitter in New York Mets history. Good for him! The Mets are looking good this year.

With tonight's dominating, 10 strike-out performance against the Rays, Andy Pettitte has won 50% of his career starts.

Here's a pic from just after he hit it.

Five of the 6 runs the Mets scored were in the first bad inning. Oh well, we'll get 'em tonight.

Dammit!!! Andy Pettitte fractured his left ankle! He'll be out six weeks. CC was just placed on DL today too.

The winning League of the All Star game gets home field in the World Series. Utterly ridiculous.

Big win for the Yankees last night and they are currently in the lead versus the Angels this afternoon.
