    Default Bob Seger

Robert Clarke Seger (born May 6, 1945) is an American rock musician and singer-songwriter.

As a locally successful Detroit-area artist, he performed and recorded as The Bob Seger System throughout the 1960s. By the early 1970s, he had dropped the "System" from his recordings, and he continued to strive for national success with other various bands. In 1973 he put together "The Silver Bullet Band," an evolving group of Detroit-area musicians, with whom he became most successful. In 1976, he achieved national fame with two albums, the live record Live Bullet, and the studio record Night Moves. On his studio albums he also worked extensively with the Alabama-based Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, appearing on several of Seger's best selling singles and albums.

A roots rocker with a classic raspy, shouting voice, Seger was first inspired by Little Richard, along with Elvis Presley.[1] He wrote and recorded songs that dealt with blue-collar themes. Seger has recorded many rock and roll hits, including "Night Moves", "Turn the Page", and "Like a Rock", and also co-wrote the Eagles number one hit "Heartache Tonight". His iconic signature song "Old Time Rock and Roll" was named one of the Songs of the Century in 2001. With a career spanning five decades, Seger continues to perform and record today.

"Old Time Rock & Roll" charted #2 as most played Jukebox Singles of all Time, second only to Patsy Cline's "Crazy"

Seger's songs have been covered by many artists including Thin Lizzy and Metallica.

Seger was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

If I’m able to offend you so easily, to me that means you already recognize some truth in what I’ve written, but you aren’t ready to face it consciously yet. If you read something from me that provokes an emotional reaction, then a seed has already been planted. In other words, it’s already too late for you.

A bit of good news for Seger fans. Seger will tour the states beginning in March.

    From bobseger.com

Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band will launch a new tour "to major cities across North America" starting in March, Seger's first time on the concert trail since his tour of 2006-07.

The exact cities and dates will be announced shortly, although a map that flashes in a brief video on his web page showed Michigan, Ohio, Massachusetts, New York and Missouri.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has a deep well of hits to draw from, but he'll also give fans a taste of some new music from a release he's been preparing for some time.

It was a year ago that Seger phoned in to Dick Purtan's show for his farewell broadcast, and Purtan teased out the news that Seger would be hitting the road soon.

There were rumblings in the fall that he was gathering the "usual suspects," mustering his troops for a major tour, but the month of embarkation was bumped back a few times.

Seger, who turns 66 in May, is known for his legendary live performances at Cobo Hall over the years, and he will almost certainly play several hometown shows.

His most recent album release was "Early Seger Vol. 1," a compilation of remastered and unreleased tracks personally selected by the rocker, in November 2009.

Seger has amassed more than 50 million in record sales, and in an era when those kind of numbers are way down, he's kept it up; in 2010, he was honored as having the No. 1 Catalog Album of the Decade for his "Greatest Hits," which sold 9 million units.

Bob Seger will be releasing the first taste of his new album, a cover of Tom Waits' "Downtown Train," on Monday morning, streaming it on his official web site and delivering it to radio stations.

Seger, meanwhile, has been flying back and forth to Nashville to finish work on the album, whose title and release date have not yet been revealed. It will be Seger's first since the "Early Seger Vol. 1" compilation in 2009 and his first of all-new material since "Face the Promise" in 2006. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has also been at home in Detroit rehearsing his Silver Bullet Band for a tour that starts on March 26 in Detroit. So far 17 shows have been announced, and the trek, Seger's first since 2006-07, is expected to wrap up during late May in the Detroit area.

"Downtown Train," which Waits released on his 1985 album "Rain Dogs," is a song Seger has waited more than two decades to release. He recorded the song in early 1989 but was beaten to the punch by Rod Stewart, who included a his version of "Downtown Train" on his late 1989 box set "Storyteller -- The Complete Anthology: 1964-1990." Stewart's version hit No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Rock and Adult Contemporary singles charts. It was also nominated for a Grammy Award.

Seger, meanwhile, opted not to release his version of the song but noted at the time that he had mentioned recording the song to Stewart during a visit to London in the summer of 1989. "The next thing I knew, a month later he recorded "Downtown Train" in London and two months later he recorded it in the same studio I recorded it in Los Angeles," Seger said. Stewart and his representatives have long denied that he stole the idea to record "Downtown Train," and any hard feelings have settled over the years. Stewart offered an olive branch of sorts by recording Seger's "Still the Same" as the title track of his 2006 covers album "Still the Same...Great Rock Classics of Our Time."

The current version of "Downtown Train" was freshly recorded for the new album, produced by Seger in Los Angeles.

Mary Chapin Carpenter, Patty Smyth and Everything But The Girl have also recorded versions of "Downtown Train," while Seger has released his versions of other Waits songs, including "16 Shells From a Thirty-Ought Six" and "New Coat of Paint."
