JOHN FOGERTY RELEASES NEW ‘MYSTIC HIGHWAY’ SONG

Most of John Fogerty‘s new album, ‘Wrote a Song for Everyone,’ finds the former Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman looking back on his distinguished catalog. But he did make room for a couple of new songs — and one of them, ‘Mystic Highway,’ now has its own video.

At six minutes and change, ‘Mystic Highway’ is the longest song on the new record; in fact, it’s probably one of the heftier cuts that Fogerty’s penned, which makes it a bit of an odd choice for the leadoff single from ‘Wrote a Song for Everyone.’ But while lyric videos have become a favorite fallback tactic for lazy record-label publicity departments, Fogerty’s ‘Mystic Highway’ clip is actually fun to watch, with the words to the song brought to life over a series of animated images.

Like the album’s other new song, ‘Train of Fools,’ ‘Mystic Highway’ highlights Fogerty as a solo performer rather than surrounding him with the special guests who crowd the rest of the record — an impressive list that includes country superstar Miranda Lambert, Rage Against the Machine‘s Tom Morello, the members of Dawes and My Morning Jacket, and fellow rockers such as Bob Seger and Foo Fighters. The full-length set is scheduled to drop on May 28; in the meantime, enjoy this ‘Mystic’ ride.

British rock bassist Trevor Bolder has passed away at the age of 62 after a battle with cancer. Best known for his long stint with Uriah Heep, the rocker also played with David Bowie during his ’70s prime.

Bolder first broke onto the British scene in the Rats, which also featured guitarist Mick Ronson. He joined Ronson in Bowie’s backing band for the ‘Hunky Dory’ album in 1971, remaining for 1972′s groundbreaking ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars.’ He also played on 1973′s ‘Aladdin Sane’ and ‘Pin Ups’ before replacing John Wetton in Uriah Heep.

He departed the group in 1982 for a short-lived stint in Wishbone Ash, but returned in 1983 and had played on every Uriah Heep album since, including their most recent effort, 2011′s ‘Into the Wild.’

Bolder announced a sabbatical from the band in January to undergo surgery, and in February he confirmed that he had been treated for pancreatic cancer. He said at the time that he hoped to be back on stage with Uriah Heep within four months.

A statement from Uriah Heep lauds Bolder as “an all time great, one of the outstanding musicians of his generation, and one of the finest and most influential bass players that Britain ever produced.”

Guitarist Mick Box adds, “Trevor was a ‘World Class’ bass player, singer & songwriter, and more importantly a World Class friend. He will be sadly missed by family, friends and rock fans all over the world. We are all numb to the core.”

Guitarist and singer Steve Hyams, who briefly worked with British rockers Mott the Hoople, has passed away at the age of 62 after battling heart problems for years.

Hyams got his start in 1971 with a band called Dolls House, then went on to perform with the Samuel Prody Band before launching a solo career. His 1974 debut album, ‘Mistaken Identities,’ featured Wings drummer Denny Seiwell. He had been friends with the members of Mott the Hoople for years when he came on board, working with them on six tracks in 1977 that were later released as ‘World Cruise.’

“Steve Hyams worked in a record store on the Kings Road – the Chelsea Drug Store – when Mott The Hoople started in 1969,” Mott front man Ian Hunter recalled (quote via Classic Rock magazine). “We soon found him to be an astute listener and his taste was faultless. Later on, he got into music and he’s done some seriously good stuff. I would have been really happy if Steve would have taken my place after Mott the Hoople finished in 1974. He was unique. Steve’s one that got away.”

Hyams went on to release a second solo album titled ‘Feather and a Tomahawk’ in 1997.

“Steve was a tremendously talented writer and musician,” Mott the Hoople biographer Campbell Devine said. “He was also passionate, humorous and sensitive – a very charming and thoughtful man.”

(CBS News) John Fogerty, frontman and the creative force behind Creedence Clearwater Revival, says of a reunion with the legendary group -- "it's possible."

Appearing on "CBS This Morning" on Monday, he said, "From time to time, I'll say something and it'll get in print that maybe that will happen, and then immediately I'll hear back stuff that doesn't sound like it's possible. ... I think it's a possibility in the future, you know. It's not something I'm actively seeking, but I'm not totally against the idea either."

Fogerty broke with Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1972 in what has been called one of rock 'n' roll's messiest breakups.

Fogerty, now a solo act, is releasing a new album titled "Wrote a Song for Everyone." He said on "CTM" that it's "the best thing I've ever done."

"I love my new album. ... I'm real proud of it, real happy with how it turned out," he said. "It all started with my wife just kind of saying one day, 'Why don't you get a bunch of people that you love and sing your songs. And that was such a remarkable idea, to me it seemed really fresh. It seemed like Christmas."

"Wrote a Song for Everyone" will be available on May 28.

Fogerty, who has been making music for nearly 50 years, has been named in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame. He has written six platinum albums, 10 gold singles and sold more than 100 million records.

Ray Manzarek, founding member and keyboardist for the Doors, died today (May 20) at age 74 after a long battle with bile duct cancer.

“I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate Ray Manzarek today,” said Doors guitarist Robby Krieger. “I’m just glad to have been able to have played Doors songs with him for the last decade. Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him.”

Singer Jim Morrison commanded the lion’s share of attention, but Manzarek’s contributions to the Doors cannot be understated. As our list of the Top 10 Ray Manzarek Doors Songs demonstrates, it was his jazz and classical music-influenced keyboard playing that helped the band create a unique sound. This was further enhanced by the fact that he was often also filling in the low end for the group, who rarely used a bass player.

Manzarek is survived by his wife Dorothy and brothers Rick and James Manczarek — all of whom were with him at the time of his passing — as well as son Pablo Manzarek, Pablo’s wife Sharmin and their three children Noah, Apollo and Camille. His family has requested that anyone interested in sending flowers instead make a donation in Manzarek’s name at Stand Up To Cancer ? This Is Where The End Of Cancer Begins.

Looking for dirty deeds done dirt cheap? Well, you might be in luck — especially if you live in a state where there are relaxed child labor laws. In the clip above, 12-year-old singer Brooks Paul belts out a convincing version of the AC/DC classic with his band — but if you’re looking to hire them, you might have to drive him home after the gig.

There’s nothing wrong with starting young and getting your foot in the door at an early age, but this aspiring rocker takes it to a whole different level. The ambitious North Carolina resident is known as the “Prince of Rock,” and he performs with his own band, touring the East Coast hitting venues from Virginia to Florida. He was also the youngest performer in the over-70-year history of Myrtle Beach Bike Week. His closest band mate in age is 40 years old.

Paul sure looks and acts the part of a rock star — with his flowing blond locks, mirrored aviator shades and jeans, he resembles a diminutive Sebastian Bach. His YouTube channel also features his renditions of songs by Journey, Bon Jovi, Foreigner and more.

Could he be the next big thing in rock? Time will tell. But the kid can sing.

Paul Albert Anka, OC (born July 30, 1941) is a Canadian-American singer, songwriter, and actor. Anka became famous in the late 1950s and 1960s with hit songs like "Diana", "Lonely Boy", and "Put Your Head on My Shoulder". He went on to write such well-known music as the theme for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and one of Tom Jones' biggest hits, "She's a Lady", and the English lyrics for Frank Sinatra's signature song, "My Way" (originally French song "Comme d'habitude").

In 1983, he co-wrote with Michael Jackson the song "I Never Heard", which was retitled and released in 2009 under the name "This Is It". An additional song that Jackson co-wrote with Anka from this 1983 session, "Love Never Felt So Good", has since been discovered, and will be released in the future. The song was also released by Johnny Mathis in 1984. Anka became a naturalized US citizen in 1990.

Metallica previously stated: "It's been a long time in the making, so we are proud to finally announce the arrival of a first for us – an all Metallica pinball machine! After years of playing on Kirk's machines at HQ, we jumped at the idea when Stern Pinball came to us with some designs and ideas some time ago. The machines will include 12 'Tallica songs with 'Master of Puppets', 'One', and 'Fade To Black' among them.

Features will include an electric chair, snake, grave markers and lots of other bells and whistles along with art by our friend Dirty Donny.
